Scam Awareness Seminar TOMORROW
It is not too late to join us for our Scam Awareness Seminar taking place Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the Tioga County Fairgrounds. This will be an informative seminar co-hosted with First Citizens Community Bank, C&N Bank, the Pennsylvania Treasury, and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. This event aims to help people learn to protect themselves by outlining the tactics commonly used by scammers, what to look for and how to avoid them.
While this event is designed for seniors, all are welcome. Seniors who wish to participate in the seminar are reminded that admission to the fair is free for people ages 62 and older until 5 p.m. Tuesday, (Aug. 11). If you are not a senior and would like to attend, you will be charged $8 general admission for entry into the fair. The scam seminar is free.

The Tioga County Fair Begins Today
Today marks the opening day of the Tioga County Fair! It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our agricultural community, support local exhibitors and vendors, and create lasting memories with family and friends.
The Tioga County Fair is one of my family's favorite traditions, and I encourage everyone to come out, enjoy everything the fair has to offer, and maybe even start a new family tradition of your own. I hope to see you there!

Connecting Seniors, Strengthening Community
Friday was a wonderful day as grandparents and seniors from across our community gathered for our annual Senior Expo. It was great to see more than 700 people enjoying coffee, pastries, fellowship, and the opportunity to learn about the programs and services available to help them navigate their senior years.
A highlight of the day was presenting the Matt Baker Community Service Award to Dr. Andrew Sayre, MD, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to serving others. For many years, Dr. Sayre faithfully served as an emergency room physician in Wellsboro while also serving as a leader in his church. From 1990 to 2010, he coached numerous youth and middle school sports, mentoring countless young athletes. His dedication to local athletics was recently recognized with his induction into the Wellsboro Athletics Hall of Fame.
Dr. Sayre's lifelong commitment to serving others makes him a truly deserving recipient of the Matt Baker Community Service Award. Congratulations, Dr. Sayre!
Thank you to my staff and volunteers for their hard work in making this event such a success. I also want to thank the more than 80 organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies that participated and shared valuable resources and information. Events like this are a great reminder of the strength of our community and our shared commitment to supporting our seniors.

Celebrating I-99
On Thursday, July 30, the 62-mile stretch of U.S. Route 15 through Tioga and Lycoming counties officially became Interstate 99, extending from Williamsport to the New York state line.
This long-awaited milestone officially connects our region to the Interstate Highway System, creating new opportunities for economic growth, business investment, and family-sustaining jobs. While the designation also brings new federal regulations, especially for agriculture, we remain committed to working with our federal partners to support our farmers and rural communities.

A Visit to One of the Northeast's Premier Wood Products Manufacturers
On Monday, July 27, I joined Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding for a tour of Cummings Veneer Products, Barefoot Brand Flooring, Cummings Lumber Company, and Barefoot Pellet Company in Troy. It was a great opportunity to visit each facility and see firsthand how fourth-generation manufacturers Doug and Scott Cummings continue to produce some of the finest quality lumber and wood products in the Northeast.
It was impressive to learn more about Cummings Lumber's commitment to producing exceptional hardwood products, from wide-plank flooring and wall paneling to pallets and wood pellets. Just as impressive is the Cummings family's dedication to their employees, customers, community and environment.
Even after the devastating fire in 2024, the Cummings family has demonstrated remarkable resilience. As they rebuild, they continue to be an important part of our community, leading the industry while providing quality jobs and supporting the local economy. Their perseverance and commitment are a testament to the strength of our local community.

Troop 22 Celebrates its 59th Eagle Scout
On Aug. 1, I had the pleasure of joining the members of Troop 22 in Knoxville to recognize Carsyn C. Kemp, who became just the 59th member of Troop 22 since 1938 to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting America.
This is an incredible honor that only a small percentage of Scouts achieve. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout requires years of dedication, perseverance, leadership and service. Carsyn has demonstrated all of these qualities through his commitment to Scouting and his community.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Carsyn constructed a storage closet and remodeled the sign for the Ellis Grist Youth Center in Troupsburg, New York. Throughout his Scouting journey, he also served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader.
Congratulations to Carsyn on this remarkable accomplishment. Thank you to his parents, David and Shannon Kemp, his family, and the dedicated leaders of Troop 22 for investing in the lives of our young people and helping Carsyn achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
As I looked through the names of the previous Eagle Scouts from Troop 22, I was reminded of the remarkable legacy this program has built over the decades. Scouting continues to instill values of character, leadership, and service that strengthen our communities and prepare the next generation of leaders.

USDA Seeks Flood Damage Reports in Potter County
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is asking property owners in the Sunderlinville and Potter Brook area who were impacted by the July 6–7, 2026, flooding to report storm-related damages.
Property owners who believe their damages may qualify should complete an EWP Rapid Damage Response Form by Aug. 31.

The information gathered will help determine eligibility for the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program, which assists communities in addressing hazards caused by severe flooding.

LIHEAP to Provide Supplemental Payments
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) is issuing a $100 supplemental payment to households that received Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds in the 2025-26 season and have at least one family member who is a child 6 years old or younger, is age 60 or older or has a disability.
Supplemental payments are being distributed directly to a household’s utility company or home heating fuel provider. Eligible households will receive the benefit automatically and do not need to apply.
LIHEAP is a federally funded program administered by PA DHS. It provides assistance toward a household's heating bill for renters and homeowners. If the household’s supplemental payment is issued to an electric vendor, it could be applied to cooling costs. More information is available here.

Call Before You Dig
Aug. 11 marks National 811 Day – a day dedicated to reminding residents, contractors and utility workers of the importance of calling 8-1-1 before digging to help ensure the safety of excavation projects across the state.
Every time an underground utility line is hit, there is a risk to the contractors or homeowners who are doing the digging; to utility workers and emergency responders who are mobilized to deal with the damage; and to bystanders who live, work or travel near the locations of the incidents.
State law requires contractors and residents to contact PA One Call at least three business days prior to excavation – triggering alerts to all utilities within an intended digging area and prompting utilities to mark where their facilities are located. Pennsylvanians can dial 8-1-1 to connect with the One Call system, while out-of-state residents or businesses can call 1-800-242-1776.

Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program Accepting Applications
The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) is seeking applicants for $10 million in funding to support security enhancement projects for nonprofit organizations serving diverse communities throughout the Commonwealth.
The Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program was part of Act 83 of 2019, which directs PCCD to administer grants to nonprofit organizations that primarily serve individuals, groups or institutions that are included within a bias motivation category for single bias hate crime incidents as identified by the FBI’s Hate Crime Statistics publication. Applicants are eligible for security enhancements designed to protect the safety and security of the users of a facility located in the Commonwealth that is owned or operated by the nonprofit organization.
