Celebrating 75 Years in the Community
It was an honor to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Guthrie Troy Community Hospital last week. It was clear to see why it was selected as one of the most beautiful hospitals in the country with its warm, comforting design that gives it a home-like feeling, which serves as a beacon of hope on the hill.
For 75 years, the hospital has built a culture of service, with its staff – neighbors serving neighbors – providing exceptional health care in our rural communities. This compassionate and dedicated team is at the heart of the hospital’s success and continued growth, making it a true cornerstone to our community’s well-being.
Guthrie Troy Community Hospital’s commitment to quality has been recognized with several notable awards:
|
• |

Manufacturing in the Northern Tier
Recently, I visited E-Tech Industrial Corporation in Troy as part of a tour focused on manufacturing in the Northern Tier. It was pretty cool to see the state-of-the-art technology happening right here in our area. E-tech contributes to the design, development, engineering, and manufacturing of precision tools and products used in the aerospace and automotive industries. E-tech employs a little over 30 employees from the area, and this global leader is growing right here in rural Pennsylvania!
Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Workforce Development joined the conversation, and we discussed the significance of manufacturing here in our area and how we can attract a new generation of workers. E-tech's strong relationship in the community is what has helped them build a strong workforce, as well as their partnership with Penn College, which facilitates apprenticeship programs for students interested in pursuing careers in trades.
Apprenticeships are a proven way to meet the increasing demand for a highly skilled workforce. Charles, pictured here with his workforce development instructor, is an example of the success of this program. He is just one of many who has gotten a head start by participating in Penn Tech’s Workforce Apprenticeship Program. Charles is now working as a journeyman for E-tech and loving his job.
Pennsylvania College of Technology offers a wide range of programs for companies and individuals looking to enhance skills or start new careers. The college’s Workforce Development department provides customized training solutions, apprenticeship programs, and specialized courses designed to address skill gaps in various industries.
You can find more details on specific programs here.
We have so many great opportunities in our area, and I am excited to see local businesses and educational opportunities building the next generation of leaders and workforce.

Did Someone Steal Your Identity?
With so much of our lives online, it’s more important than ever to be proactive about protecting your identity. Scammers are constantly evolving their methods, but there are many effective ways to stay vigilant and safeguard your personal information. If you believe that your identity has been stolen, it is important to act quickly. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has provided some easy steps to learn how to freeze your credit to protect yourself from identity theft. A credit freeze is something you can do anytime, for any reason. While a freeze is in place, nobody can open a new credit account in your name. You can learn how to freeze your account here.

Poll Workers Sought for Upcoming Election
Beyond exercising your right to vote, what can you do to help elections run smoothly across the Commonwealth? Consider serving as a poll worker in the upcoming election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Open positions vary by county but may include judge of elections, majority inspector and minority inspector, which are elected positions. Counties also need clerks and machine operators/inspectors at each precinct. These positions are filled by appointment.
Counties train poll workers on their Election Day duties. Workers receive payment for training and for their service on Election Day.
In order to serve, you must be registered to vote in the county where you wish to work. Exceptions exist for 17-year-old high school students; contact your county election office for more information. Government officials and government employees generally are not allowed to serve as poll workers. Likewise, you are not permitted to serve if your name appears on the ballot.
Poll workers generally work for the entire day on Election Day, from before the time the polls open at 7 a.m., until after the polls close at 8 p.m.
People interested in serving as poll workers should start by filling out this form. If you have questions, call 877-VOTESPA (877-868-3772) or email re-voterreg@pa.gov.
