Senior Expo Postponed; Scam Seminar Next Week
Please help us spread the word to anyone planning on attending our annual Senior Expo. Due to construction issues at the high school, we had to make the decision to postpone the event. My staff has been busy preparing for this event, so we are hopeful we will be able to reschedule for later this year.

While the expo is on hold, we are excited to host a Scam Awareness Seminar during Senior Day at the Tioga County Fair. This will be an informative seminar co-hosted with First Citizens Community Bank, C&N Bank, the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. This event aims to help people learn to protect themselves by outlining the tactics commonly used by scammers, what to look for and how to avoid them.
While this event is designed for seniors, all are welcome. Seniors who wish to participate in the seminar are reminded admission to the fair is free for people ages 62 and older until 5 p.m. that day (Aug. 5). If you are not a senior and would like to attend, you will be charged $8 general admission for entry into the fair.
As a special gift, our co-hosts, First Citizen Community Bank and C&N Bank, will be providing fair vouchers for all attendees after the seminar to be used toward food purchases on Aug. 5.

Tioga County Fair Welcomes You
This is always a fun time of year for my family and me. We enjoyed some special family time at the Troy Fair, and now we look forward to the Tioga County Fair, which is scheduled to take place Aug. 4-9. I love talking with families, celebrating local agriculture and checking out all the talent and exhibits from all the participants. This year is going to be especially sweet as I have the opportunity to judge baked goods from so many talented bakers.
Looking for a fun way to celebrate the rich culture of Tioga County? Check out the Tioga County Fair! There’s free entertainment, rides, games, live performances, demo derby, exhibits, food and much more.
You can check out the full fair schedule here.

Applications Open for Broadband Funding
The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) recently announced the $1.16 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program will accept its second and final round of applications through Aug. 1. BEAD is a federal grant program that provides states with funding to deploy broadband infrastructure and connect residents to the internet.
The goal is to expand broadband in unserved and underserved areas of the state to make sure high-speed internet is available to every resident by the end of the decade. It is estimated that over 100,000 Pennsylvanians in 42 counties currently have no service or struggle with poor service.
Eligible BEAD applicants include cooperative organizations; not-for-profit organizations; public-private partnerships; private companies; public or private utility companies; public utility districts; municipalities or units of local government; and internet service providers registered through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
For more information about the program, how funding can be used and how to apply, click here.

A veteran who suffered a service-connected disability, regardless the length or status of their service is also eligible, as well as the surviving dependents of an eligible veteran or those of a service member who died in line of duty or was killed in action.
Since its inception, the program, operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, has awarded more than $7.4 million to assist over 6,800 service members, veterans, and their families with emergent financial needs.
